Benefits of trees are immeasurable. They provide food and oxygen, improve air quality, and clean air. Also, trees conserve water and prevent soil erosion. Universities are becoming green universities. They are expected to be sustainable and environmentally friendly bodies. Contributing to the sustainability plan of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura towards a green university, ex-office bearers of the Senior Common Room and Welfare Society (Santhagaraya) of the University launched a tree plantation campaign. Advisor to the Senior Common Room and Welfare Society (Santhagaraya), Ven. Dambara Amila Thero, the former secretary and the Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, the former president, Prof. Janak Kumarasinghe, the former treasurer, Dr. R. Sanjeewa and several other executive office bearers of the society participated in the event held on 9th November 2022 at the university premises.
